Rick Springfield Best in Show 2018 concert at The Amp in Pompano Beach, Florida featured 80s rockers Loverboy, Greg Kihn and Tommy Tutone.
Everyone had their speed dials set to 867-5309 in anticipation of Tommy Tutone taking the stage. The California native got the crowd warmed up with a sample of tunes that got him on the FM airwaves. Greg Kihn followed and proved he kihntinues to rock by treating the crowd to a five song set that covered tunes from his musical career.
Canadian rockers Loverboy provided direct support for Rick Springfield Best in Show 2018 in South Florida. The classic rock band played all the hits that made them arena rock legends. Mike Reno, Paul Dean, Matt Frenette, Doug Johnson and Ken “Spider” Sinnaeve had just started playing “Lucky Ones” when a nasty little rain storm swept through the area. Despite the contradiction to the song title, the downpour did little to send the fans in attendance running for cover. Loverboy continues to be a great live band and their performance captivated all who sang along with them.

Rick Springfield recently celebrated his 69th birthday. This is important to note because he rocked the Pompano Beach Amphitheater at much more youthful level. Rick is a consummate performer who keeps the fans in the palm of his hand as he works the stage. Roaming from side to side and front to back, he never stands still for a moment. Those in attendance feed off his energy to create an electrifying experience. Even though Florida decided to have one of its rain fits, nobody seemed to care. The stage lights shining on the rock -n- roll show made it too bright to dampen any enthusiasm.
His catalog of songs stand the test of time and still sound great played live. Tunes from the earlier part of his career are upbeat and anthemic. The newer tunes have a bit of a dark edge to them, showing that he continues to evolve as a musician. From working class dog to the snake king, Rick Springfield still has plenty of bite in his music.
