L.A. Guns kicked off a night of 80s glam rock at Pompano Beach Amphitheater with a down and dirty set straight off the decadent Sunset Strip.
From the moment they walked on stage, the guys in L.A. Guns were cocked and loaded and ready to go. Stalwarts Phil Lewis (vocals) and Steve Riley (drums) are every bit the rockers they were when the band first formed in California. Heavy metal acts are no strangers to personnel changes and L.A. Guns has seen a few new faces over the years.
Recent additions to the band include the musically talented and highly animated Michael Grant (lead guitar/backing vocals) and steady Kenny Kweens (bass guitar). When they’re plugged in and playing with drumming sensation Steve Riley and lead singer Phil Lewis, they can rip n tear through songs with hard rocking authority.
Though their set was more focused on the edgy, L.A. Guns can still slow it down. When they played “Ballad of Jayne,” it was easy to hear the enthusiasm (and no cracking) in Phil Lewis’ voice. The crowd responded by singing along and flicking their lighters.
Rock -n- roll and Hollywood forever.
