When Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience played Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida, it was much more than a tribute concert. The sold-out show was actually more like the drummer’s birthright. And for three hours he performed the songs that made his legendary father’s band famous.
The massive setlist included the albums Led Zeppelin and Led Zeppelin II played in their entirety, plus deep-cut tracks and popular tunes from their impressive catalog. These were the songs that dominated the airwaves and turntables in the 60s and they remain every bit at home in the 21st Century.
The name Bonham is synonymous with drumming — heavy, thunderous, drumming, with lots of moving back and forth between rhythms. With sticks in hand, Jason Bonham effortlessly took command of the timekeeping duties and led the band from behind his drum kit.
Though music was the main focus of the concert, there was also a bit of nostalgic storytelling. When it came time to honor his father with a whopper of a drum solo, LED screens lit up with a video of John “Bonzo” Bonham playing “Moby Dick” in the background next to Jason. The arrangement made hearts pound along with the drums to great rock n roll talent. Like father, like son.
