Delain is currently touring the United States in support of their latest album, The Human Contradiction. When the goth rockers brought their symphonic metal show to Revolution Live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the Dutch band was part of a triple header European concert experience featuring Sabaton and Nightwish.
The opening act always has a lot of weight on their shoulders. That’s because they’re responsible for getting the fans fired up and setting the mood for the rest of the evening. And founding members Martijn Westerholt (keys) and Charlotte Wessels (vocals), along with Otto Schimmelpenninck van der Oije (bass), Ruben Israel (drums) and Timo Somers (guitar), made sure that happened with a brilliant performance.
The five-piece outfit played with a commanding stage presence complemented by exceptional musicianship. Notes from the keys pierced through the haze rising from the floor allowing Charlotte’s vocals to cascade across the venue. Screaming guitar riffs shared the spotlight with body jarring drum beats and bass lines that beckoned fans to push closer and closer to the stage. And with each new song fists from the audience pumped with approval.
When Delain played “Sing to Me” from their latest record, Charlotte Wessels was joined by Marco Hietala (bass/vocals) from Nightwish. The duet was an instant success. Marco made a gracious exit and left Delain to finish up a concert performance that left the fans wanting more.
